Open Editions
Open edition sculptures include any sculpture not limited to a
specific number or production period. These pieces will be continually produced
and are open to the Society Members as well as the general public. An example of
an open edition is the Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs´ Mine Scene.
Numbered Limited Editions
A limited edition sculpture means that only a certain
pre-announced number are produced. Once all pieces are sold the edition becomes
closed. Of course, it is still possible to locate one at a dealer or from
another collector, but no more are being produced or distributed by the Walt
Disney Classics Collection after the full edition size has been reached. They
are individually numbered on the base of the piece. An example of a numbered
limited edition is Sleeping Beauty’s Love’s First Kiss.
Time
Limited (or Honored) Editions
A time limited edition is a sculpture offered for a specific time
period. Following a certain period of time, no more orders are taken and the
issue becomes a closed edition. An example of a time limited production is Snow
White and the Seven Dwarfs´ Evil Queen – Who is the Fairest One of All, which
will only be produced in 2005.
Closed Editions
A piece which is either a limited edition or time honored edition
will no longer be produced.
Suspended Editions
A suspended edition is a temporarily “closed” piece or scene
which may become an open edition again in the future. Suspended pieces may also
be retired without going back into production. Suspended pieces may again be
produced and offered for sale to dealers.
Retirement
A retirement means that no more of the Selected Walt Disney
Classics Collection sculptures will ever be produced as of the specified
retirement date and the production molds will be destroyed. On the retirement
date, any sculptures remaining in WDCC´s warehouse are released to dealers on an
allocation basis.
Criteria considered for retirement:
- Length of time a scene has been available
- Whether the film or characters involved are represented in other collection
scenes currently available or planned for the future
- Honoring an open edition figurine or scene that has made a significant
contribution to the Walt Disney Classics Collection line
Event Sculptures
Throughout the year, dealers can host special events at which
guests can purchase a special event sculpture. The events can either be 1 day or
a specific weekend.
These special sculptures can be designed to complement an existing scene, but
they can be a “stand-alone” version.
